Application of Silicon Carbide Micropowder in Paint Coatings

Silicon carbide micropowder includes green silicon carbide micropowder and black silicon carbide micropowder. They have good insulation performance, long usage time, and low production cost, so they are widely used. In fact, silicon carbide micropowder also plays a certain role in paint coatings. So what are the uses of silicon carbide powder in coatings?
The use of silicon carbide powder in paint coatings:
1. Low resin dosage/high potential for addition: because in any shape, the spherical shape has a specific surface area and requires less resin. The accumulation of particles has also been improved. The wide particle size distribution of silicon carbide micropowder allows small microspheres to fill the gaps between larger microspheres. The result is: high addition, high solid content, lower VOC, and reduced use of other components.
2. Low viscosity/improved flowability: Unlike irregularly shaped particles, silicon carbide micropowders easily roll between each other. This makes the system using silicon carbide micropowder have lower viscosity and better flowability. Moreover, the sprayability of the system has also been improved.
Silicon carbide powder can be used in coatings, commonly used in: mixed paint, primer, rust prevention paint, anti-corrosion paint, road paint, square paint, ship paint, and other paints and coatings, which can reduce the use of resins and dispersants in paints and coatings. Not only can it play a role in filling, compatibilization, thickening, and extinction, but it can also improve the fineness, leveling performance, film hardness, and arc resistance of the paint.
In the coating industry, silicon carbide micropowder has the characteristics of fine particle size, high hardness, good suspension and dispersion, low oil absorption, and high electrical resistivity. Based on these characteristics, adding silicon carbide micropowder to the coating can help improve the corrosion resistance, wear resistance, insulation, and high-temperature resistance of the coating.
