Requirements for Brown Fused Aluminium Oxide Abrasives in the Glass Sandblasting Industry
Zhongsen Editor 2025-07-13Sandblasting is actually high-pressure jet cleaning, using compressed air as the power to spray abrasive onto the surface of the workpiece for treatment, which is called sandblasting. The glass sandblasting industry often uses some brown fused alumina abrasives. What are the quality requirements for brown fused alumina abrasives in these industries?
Among various surface treatment methods, sandblasting has the most thorough effect and strong adaptability, with a wide range of applications. Sandblasting brown fused alumina can clean surfaces that are usually difficult to clean, and some specialized tools can be used to clean the inner surface of pipelines, with the lowest cost of sandblasting.
Hardness is a basic requirement for sandblasting. Aluminum oxide endows brown fused alumina abrasive with hardness and high melting point, while the presence of trace amounts of magnetic substances endows brown fused alumina with toughness or resistance to fragmentation. Glass sandblasting brown fused alumina not only requires hardness, but also the mixing ratio of silicon dioxide and titanium dioxide in the glass phase, theoretically close to 1:1. If there is too much silicon dioxide, excess silicon dioxide cannot be left in the glass phase. It reacts with a portion of alumina to generate mullite, which reduces the toughness of brown fused alumina.
Excessive titanium oxide (TiO2) in brown fused alumina cannot be retained in the glass phase and will react with alumina to form aluminum titanate. It will cause the weakening of the glass phase between alumina grains. The difference in thermal expansion coefficient between the three phases can also cause intergranular cracks during the heating process.
Another reminder is to consider using different brown fused alumina abrasives when using different sandblasting processes.
Under different process requirements, sandblasting abrasives can be selected with different abrasives. Generally, 18-24 grit size is sufficient. If roughness is required, choose brown fused alumina with larger particles, and if flatness is required, choose brown fused alumina with smaller particles. The larger the mesh size, the finer the granularity.
Sandblasting brown fused alumina abrasive products have moderate hardness and high stacking density, without free silica. Brown fused alumina products have some characteristics such as high grinding efficiency, wear resistance and high temperature resistance. The quality, reliability, and stable performance of the products make them a good choice for making abrasive tools, refractory materials, and wear-resistant materials.
